Russia carried out one of its largest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine
KYIV/MOSCOW, May 29: Russia carried out one of its largest drone and missile attacks on Ukraine in recent months, targeting energy infrastructure, military facilities and residential areas across multiple cities.
Ukrainian authorities said air defence systems intercepted several incoming drones, but damage was reported in parts of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odesa. Emergency teams were deployed after explosions caused fires and disrupted electricity supply in several districts.
The Russian Defence Ministry claimed the strikes were aimed at strategic military assets and ammunition depots linked to Ukraine’s ongoing counteroffensive operations.
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and appealed for faster delivery of Western defence systems, stating that Russia was intensifying pressure ahead of the summer military campaign.
NATO countries expressed concern over the escalation and reiterated support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity. European leaders warned that continued attacks on civilian infrastructure could worsen the humanitarian crisis and increase refugee displacement across the region.
The conflict has already caused severe economic damage and geopolitical instability across Europe, while diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire remain stalled.
