Streaming slowdown pushes producers towards theatrical blockbusters
MUMBAI, May 29: Major production houses in the Hindi film industry are increasingly investing in large-scale action franchises as theatrical releases regain momentum after a prolonged slowdown in streaming revenues.
Several studios announced expansion plans for multi film cinematic universes featuring top actors, with trade analysts saying audience preference has shifted towards spectacle driven entertainment. Producers are focusing on high budget action thrillers, patriotic dramas and pan India releases aimed at attracting viewers back to cinemas.
Industry insiders revealed that filmmakers are also exploring advanced VFX collaborations with international studios to improve production quality and compete globally. Film distributors believe the second half of 2026 could witness one of the strongest box office recoveries in recent years.
