Justice Sanjeev Kumar Named Acting Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court

JAMMU, June 1: In a significant development for the judiciary, Justice Sanjeev Kumar has been entrusted with the responsibilities of Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The appointment was made by the President of India through a notification issued under the provisions of Article 223 of the Constitution.
The decision follows the elevation of Justice Arun Palli to the Supreme Court of India, creating a vacancy in the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court. To maintain the smooth functioning of judicial proceedings and administrative responsibilities, Justice Sanjeev Kumar has been authorized to carry out the duties associated with the top judicial post until a permanent appointment is made.
A senior member of the Bench, Justice Sanjeev Kumar brings years of experience in handling a wide range of legal matters and has played an important role in the administration of justice in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. His elevation to the acting position is expected to provide continuity and stability within the High Court during the transition period.
The constitutional provision invoked for the appointment empowers the President to designate an acting Chief Justice whenever the office falls vacant or when the incumbent is unable to discharge official functions.
