LPG Cylinder Price Increased by Rs 29, Consumers Face Higher Cooking Gas Costs

Consumers to pay more for household cooking fuel from June 7, while fuel retailers continue to face mounting under-recoveries amid volatile global markets.

NEW DELHI, Jun 6: Household cooking gas consumers will face higher expenses from June 7 after public sector oil marketing companies announced an upward revision in domestic LPG rates. The latest adjustment raises the cost of a standard 14.2-kg cylinder in the national capital by ₹29, taking the retail price to ₹942.

The revision comes nearly three months after the previous increase implemented in March, when fuel retailers adjusted rates in response to rising international energy prices triggeread by geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Industry officials indicated that despite earlier revisions, significant financial pressure continues to weigh on companies supplying subsidized household fuel.

According to sector estimates, oil marketing firms have been absorbing substantial losses on every cylinder sold, as retail prices have not fully reflected the sharp rise in import costs. The latest revision is aimed at reducing a portion of this burden, though under recoveries remain considerable.

The increase in cooking gas rates is part of a wider trend of fuel price adjustments witnessed in recent weeks. Retail prices of transport fuels have also moved upward, reflecting persistent fluctuations in global crude oil markets and higher procurement expenses.

Industry observers note that authorities have largely sought to shield consumers from the full impact of international price movements. As a result, state-owned fuel retailers have continued to bear a sizeable share of the additional costs rather than passing them entirely to end users.

Market analysts believe future pricing decisions will depend on developments in global energy markets, currency movements, and supply conditions. With international fuel benchmarks remaining uncertain, further reviews of domestic fuel rates are expected in the coming months.

The revised LPG rates will come into effect across the country from June 7, with prices varying slightly between cities due to local taxes and transportation costs.
