“Akhilesh Yadav Demands Judicial Probe into Alleged Road Widening Project Scams in Uttar Pradesh”

SP chief alleges large scale corruption in infrastructure works and demands probe into officials, trustees and agencies involved in execution.

Lucknow, June 16: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday called for a judicial investigation into alleged irregularities in road widening and corridor development projects undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh government.

In a post shared on social media platform X, the former Chief Minister alleged that several infrastructure projects executed under the current administration were marked by widespread corruption and procedural violations. He claimed that such large-scale irregularities could not occur without the involvement of multiple stakeholders across administrative and institutional levels.

Yadav demanded that a multi-member judicial committee be constituted to examine all major road expansion and corridor projects initiated in recent years. He further stated that no individual whether from development authorities, administrative departments, or associated committees—should be exempt from scrutiny if found involved in wrongdoing.

According to him, the alleged irregularities point to a coordinated system involving officials and decision-makers, and therefore require an independent and transparent investigation to establish accountability.

The SP chief also alleged that such projects may have enabled the accumulation of disproportionate assets by individuals linked to execution and oversight mechanisms. He urged that financial transactions, property records, and wealth accumulation of those associated with these projects be thoroughly examined.

Yadav emphasized that only a judicial probe could ensure impartiality and bring clarity to what he described as “systemic irregularities” in infrastructure development initiatives. He also insisted that accountability must extend across all levels of governance involved in project planning and execution.

The demand comes amid ongoing political exchanges between the Samajwadi Party and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over governance, development works, and allegations of corruption in major infrastructure projects across the state.

Authorities have not yet issued a formal response to Yadav’s allegations. The state government is expected to address the matter in due course as political debate around infrastructure spending and project execution continues to intensify.
