BHUBANESWAR, June 17: The Odisha government has stepped up preparations for the upcoming visit of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi conducting a comprehensive review of security measures and administrative arrangements ahead of the high-profile engagements scheduled later this week.
Presiding over a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday, the Chief Minister directed senior officials to ensure flawless coordination among departments and maintain the highest standards of security for the visit. The administration is expecting large public participation as the President and the Prime Minister are scheduled to attend major events in Mayurbhanj district.
The President will begin her two-day Odisha tour on June 19, while Prime Minister Modi is slated to join her in Rairangpur on June 20. Both leaders are expected to address a large public gathering, making the occasion one of the most significant political and administrative events in the state this year.
The visit carries added importance as it coincides with the completion of two years of the BJP-led government in Odisha and twelve years of the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. Political observers view the event as a symbolic milestone that highlights the growing significance of Odisha in the national development narrative.
Special attention is being given to arrangements in Rairangpur, the hometown of President Murmu. June 20 also marks her birthday, and celebrations are expected to take place in the region where she spent her formative years and began her public service journey. Local authorities have been instructed to make extensive preparations to welcome the President and facilitate smooth movement during her engagements.
Apart from the ceremonial events, the visit is expected to bring a strong development focus. Several infrastructure and welfare initiatives are likely to be launched during the programme. Government officials indicated that major railway projects and a large-scale coal gasification venture are among the proposals expected to receive official attention during the visit.
Healthcare development will also feature prominently in the itinerary. The President is scheduled to inaugurate multiple healthcare-related initiatives at the Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital on June 19, reflecting the government’s emphasis on strengthening medical facilities in the region.
Reviewing the arrangements, Chief Minister Majhi stressed that every aspect of the visit, including crowd management, transportation, accommodation, emergency response systems and protocol arrangements, should be executed without any lapses. He instructed departments to remain in constant coordination and ensure all preparations are completed well before the arrival of the dignitaries.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania, Development Commissioner D.K. Singh and representatives from the Home Department and other key agencies involved in organising the visit.
With security agencies, district administrations and government departments working in close coordination, Odisha is preparing to host two of the country’s most prominent leaders in what is expected to be a landmark occasion for the state. The visit is anticipated to showcase ongoing development efforts while reinforcing the government’s commitment to accelerating growth and infrastructure expansion across Odisha.
