India Shines at 5th Bonus Asia Cup Bridge Championships 2026

Indian teams remain in contention across categories as qualification race intensifies in Goa

GOA, June 24: India strengthened its position at the 5th Bonus Asia Cup Bridge Championships with the India A Seniors team emerging as the frontrunner after the completion of Day 2 at the Taj Cidade de Goa Horizon.

The championship, supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), has brought together nearly 300 elite players from 46 teams representing 16 countries.

India A Seniors topped the standings in the first round robin with 87.25 Victory Points (VPs), opening a healthy gap over Thailand (77.48 VPs), Australia (77.24 VPs) and Japan (76.47 VPs). India B Seniors also remained firmly in the hunt, occupying sixth position with 75.60 VPs, narrowly ahead of Chinese Taipei. With the second round robin set to begin on Wednesday, both Indian sides are well placed in the race for the semi-finals.

In the Open Teams competition, China led the field with 100.88 VPs, closely followed by Hong Kong China A on 100.20 VPs. India B produced a strong showing to move into third place with 97.15 VPs, while India A occupied fourth position on 90.40 VPs. Japan and Korea continued to challenge for qualification spots.

The Mixed Teams event remained dominated by China, with China A and China B occupying the top two places. Hong Kong China A held third position, while the battle for the final semi-final berth remained wide open. Thailand currently occupied fourth place, with Chinese Taipei and India B close behind.

Defending champions Indonesia maintained their lead in the Women’s Teams section, ahead of China. Hong Kong China B stood third, while India A and Japan were separated by a fraction of a point in a closely contested fight for the remaining qualification position.

League-stage matches will continue until June 25, after which the top four teams in each category will progress to the semi-finals. The knockout phase and Pairs Qualifying Series will begin on June 26, culminating in the finals and closing ceremony on June 27.
