Jamia Millia Islamia Introduces Tougher Examination Rules to Strengthen Academic Integrity
University approves revised examination regulations featuring stricter penalties for unfair practices, digital monitoring, and enhanced evaluation standards to ensure transparency.
New Delhi, July 15: Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has approved a comprehensive overhaul of its examination regulations, introducing stricter disciplinary measures and improved monitoring systems aimed at preserving academic integrity across all faculties.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the university’s Academic Council after extensive discussions on maintaining fairness in examinations and adapting assessment methods to evolving educational standards.
Under the revised regulations, students found guilty of using unfair means during examinations will face stricter penalties depending on the severity of the violation. The university has also streamlined disciplinary procedures to ensure quicker disposal of examination related cases.
Officials said the updated framework introduces greater use of digital surveillance during examinations, enhanced identity verification procedures, and stronger safeguards to prevent impersonation and organised malpractice.
The university administration believes the reforms will improve transparency while ensuring that deserving students receive fair evaluation without being affected by academic misconduct committed by others.
Jamia Millia Islamia has also expanded provisions relating to online and hybrid examinations, reflecting the growing integration of digital learning into higher education. The revised rules provide detailed guidelines for conducting remote assessments while maintaining examination credibility.
Faculty members welcomed the changes, stating that clear and uniform disciplinary provisions will help eliminate ambiguity during the handling of examination violations. Students have also been advised to familiarise themselves with the revised code before upcoming semester examinations.
The university plans to conduct awareness sessions explaining the updated regulations, disciplinary procedures, and students’ responsibilities during examinations.
Education experts note that many Indian universities are revising examination policies to align with technological advancements and rising expectations regarding academic transparency.
