Goa Opposition Begins Early Alliance Talks Before 2027 Assembly Polls

Goa, Aug 03 : Political activity in Goa has gathered momentum well ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections as opposition parties initiate discussions on possible electoral cooperation. The Congress and the Goa Forward Party (GFP) have begun preliminary negotiations, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also expressed its willingness to work with like minded parties.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar recently met GFP chief Vijai Sardesai to explore the possibility of renewing their partnership. The meeting marked the first step toward evaluating a common strategy for the next state election, with additional discussions expected on seat-sharing and campaign coordination.

AAP’s Goa unit has also started internal consultations regarding potential alliances. State president Valmiki Naik said the party remains open to collaborating with other opposition groups if it strengthens efforts to challenge the ruling BJP in the state.

Goa is scheduled to hold Assembly elections in early 2027. The BJP currently enjoys a commanding majority in the 40-member House after expanding its legislative strength following the 2022 election. Despite this advantage, opposition parties are attempting to consolidate their support base through coordinated political planning well in advance of the polls.

Political observers believe the coming months will determine whether these initial conversations evolve into a formal alliance capable of reshaping Goa’s electoral contest.
