Lok Sabha MPs’ Accommodation Committee Yet to Be Reconstituted
Panel responsible for MPs' residential facilities and welfare in Delhi is yet to be reappointed following the expiry of its previous term.
New Delhi, Aug. 6: The reconstitution of the Lok Sabha House Committee is pending after the completion of its one-year tenure, leaving the parliamentary panel responsible for overseeing accommodation and residential amenities for Members of Parliament awaiting fresh appointments.
The committee’s previous term concluded on July 3, but a new panel has not yet been announced. The House Committee, originally constituted in 2024 and reconstituted in 2025, functions under the authority of the Lok Sabha Speaker and is renewed periodically.
The panel plays a significant role in supervising residential accommodation provided to Lok Sabha members in the national capital. It reviews the availability and quality of housing while addressing matters related to civic amenities and overall living conditions in government-allotted residences.
Among its key responsibilities are examining issues linked to water supply, electricity, maintenance and other essential services available to MPs. The committee also recommends measures to improve residential infrastructure and enhance the welfare of parliamentarians during their tenure.
The House Committee generally comprises up to 12 Lok Sabha members, with its chairperson nominated by the Speaker. Each committee serves for a one-year term before a fresh panel is constituted.
With the previous tenure now over, the parliamentary body is awaiting reconstitution so that it can continue reviewing housing related matters and recommend improvements to facilities provided to elected representatives in Delhi.
