BJP Urges Congress to Let Parliament Function, Says Amit Shah Will Respond
The ruling party accuses the opposition of disrupting House business while insisting the Home Minister is available to respond during a structured debate.
India, Aug 07 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday rejected the Congress’ allegations regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s absence from Parliament, asserting that the opposition itself is responsible for preventing the House from functioning through continuous protests.
Responding to repeated remarks by Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said Shah has been present in his office within the Parliament complex throughout the day and remains prepared to participate in discussions once normal proceedings resume.
Prasad accused the Congress of creating a misleading narrative by claiming that the Home Minister was avoiding Parliament. He argued that ministers can address the House only when legislative business is allowed to continue without disruptions.
“The Home Minister is available and willing to respond. However, Parliament cannot function if the opposition continues to stall proceedings,” Prasad told reporters, adding that the government is open to hearing the opposition’s concerns in accordance with parliamentary rules.
The Congress has consistently questioned Shah’s absence from the House, pressing for a detailed discussion on the alleged theft linked to Ram temple donations and demanding a statement from the Home Minister over allegations of excessive force by Delhi Police against student protesters.
The exchange further intensified the ongoing standoff between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides blaming each other for repeated disruptions that have affected the functioning of Parliament during the current session.
The latest war of words reflects the widening political divide as the opposition continues to seek accountability on key issues, while the BJP maintains that meaningful debate can only take place after normal legislative proceedings are restored.
