Punjab Police Dismantles ISI-Backed Babbar Khalsa International Terror Module
Key operative arrested in joint operation as probe targets foreign handlers and local support network
CHANDIGARH, Aug 10: Punjab Police has dismantled an alleged terror module linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), arresting a key operative and recovering a hand grenade, officials said on Monday.
The operation was carried out jointly by Counter Intelligence, Jalandhar, and SBS Nagar Police. According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the action helped prevent a planned attack and exposed another alleged cross-border terror network.
In a post on X, Yadav said the arrested operative was allegedly working under the instructions of handlers based abroad. Preliminary investigations indicated that the accused had obtained an 86-P hand grenade from a location near Adampur in Jalandhar.
Police suspect the weapon was procured as part of instructions issued by the overseas handlers. Investigators are now examining the accused’s links with other members of the network and attempting to establish the full chain of communication and logistics.
Probe focuses on covert terror network
Investigators are also examining the use of a Dead Letter Box (DLB), a covert method in which instructions, weapons, money or other material can be exchanged without direct contact between the parties involved.
According to police, such mechanisms can help handlers and operatives maintain operational secrecy while coordinating activities.
An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act.
The recovery of the grenade is being examined as part of the wider investigation into the alleged terror conspiracy. Police are also working to identify individuals who may have provided logistical or other support to the arrested operative.
Foreign handlers under scanner
The Punjab Police said the investigation will focus on uncovering the complete structure of the alleged module, including its foreign-based handlers, local associates and other forward and backward linkages.
Authorities are also examining how the accused came into contact with the overseas network and whether additional operatives or resources were involved in the planned attack.
The latest action comes as Punjab Police continues to target suspected cross-border terror networks and their local support structures.
Further investigation is underway, with agencies expected to gather more evidence regarding the alleged BKI connections and the role of foreign-based handlers in directing activities in Punjab.
