Centre Allocates Rs 158 Crore to Expand Medical Education in Himachal Pradesh

NEW DELHI, Aug 11: The Centre has allocated Rs 158 crore to Himachal Pradesh to strengthen medical education and expand healthcare training capacity in the state, according to officials.
The funding is expected to facilitate the addition of 120 MBBS seats and 17 postgraduate seats, while also supporting the development of medical colleges and expansion-related work at AIIMS in the state.
The initiative is aimed at increasing the availability of trained medical professionals and strengthening the infrastructure required to support medical education. The expansion of undergraduate and postgraduate capacity is also expected to create additional opportunities for students seeking careers in medicine.
Officials said the allocation forms part of broader efforts to improve medical education infrastructure and increase the number of trained healthcare professionals.
The move assumes significance as states continue to face growing demand for doctors and specialist services. Increasing the availability of medical seats, particularly postgraduate positions, can help address workforce shortages and strengthen the healthcare delivery system.
