BJP: Rahul Gandhi Comes Across Like a Failed Comedian

NEW DELHI, Aug 14: The BJP on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of using “vulgar and crude” language and lowering the standards of political discourse.

Several BJP leaders criticised Gandhi and said his comments were unbecoming of the Leader of Opposition, with some likening his conduct to that of a failed stand-up comedian.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi questioned Gandhi’s approach to politics and said running the country required mature leadership rather than what he described as “amateur dramatics”. He also accused the Congress leader of insulting millions of voters by targeting a Prime Minister who has been elected to office three times.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also took aim at Gandhi, pointing to his family’s political legacy. He said Gandhi’s father, grandmother and great grandfather had served as prime ministers, but claimed that Gandhi had realised he could never attain the position and was therefore acting out of desperation.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj alleged that Gandhi had resorted to “cheap innuendo and locker-room talk” in his criticism of the prime minister. She argued that the country deserved a more responsible Leader of Opposition and accused Gandhi of behaving in a juvenile manner.

The BJP also criticised Congress MPs over their alleged use of the term “bandar” while protesting against Modi in the Parliament complex. The ruling party said such remarks reflected a lack of respect for democratic institutions and the electorate.

The latest confrontation has further intensified the political exchanges between the BJP and Congress, with both sides continuing to trade sharp accusations over the conduct and language of their leaders in Parliament and outside it.
