PM Modi Remembers Atal Bihari Vajpayee on His Death Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembers the former PM as an exceptional statesman whose leadership, vision and commitment to public welfare continue to inspire generations.

NEW DELHI, Aug 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his death anniversary, recalling his exceptional leadership, far sighted vision and lifelong dedication to the nation.

In a post on X, Modi remembered Vajpayee on his ‘Punya Tithi’ and described him as an extraordinary statesman whose contribution to India’s public life continues to influence generations.

“Remembering Atal Ji on his ‘Punya Tithi’. An extraordinary statesman blessed with remarkable vision, he dedicated his life to the service of our nation,” the prime minister said.

Modi said Vajpayee’s words, ideas and efforts continued to inspire people across generations. He also credited the former prime minister’s leadership with strengthening the country and advancing its interests.

The prime minister particularly highlighted Vajpayee’s emphasis on good governance and public welfare, saying these principles would continue to serve as a guiding force.

Vajpayee was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior and died in New Delhi on August 16, 2018, at the age of 93.

A founding figure of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vajpayee became the first leader from the BJP to serve as prime minister. He held the office during three separate terms, including a full five year tenure from 1999 to 2004.

Remembered for his oratory, parliamentary statesmanship and consensus-building approach, Vajpayee remained one of India’s most prominent political figures. His legacy continues to be associated with governance, national development and public service.

His death anniversary is observed each year as an occasion to remember his contribution to Indian politics and his role in shaping the BJP’s emergence as a major political force.
