Over 2.15 lakh Bengaluru students to get hands-on rural experience
Karnataka government launches an experiential learning programme to connect urban students with farming, village life and rural communities.
BENGALURU, Sep 9: More than 2.15 lakh students from urban schools and pre-university colleges in Bengaluru will get an opportunity to experience rural life and agricultural activities under a new initiative launched by the Karnataka government.
The programme, being introduced from the current academic year, aims to take students beyond conventional classroom learning and provide them with first-hand exposure to farming and the everyday challenges faced by rural communities.
Under the initiative, students will visit rural areas and participate in activities connected with agriculture and village life. The programme is expected to help young learners understand the importance of farming and develop greater awareness of the realities faced by people living in rural communities.
The initiative also seeks to strengthen the connection between urban students and the agricultural sector at a time when many children growing up in cities have limited direct exposure to farming.
Officials believe such experiential learning can help students gain practical knowledge while encouraging empathy, social awareness and appreciation for rural livelihoods.
The programme will cover students from schools and pre-university colleges across Bengaluru, with more than two lakh learners expected to benefit during the academic year.
The move comes amid growing emphasis on activity-based and experiential education, with policymakers increasingly looking beyond textbook-based learning to develop broader skills and awareness among students.
