India Storm Into Women’s Asia Cup Final After 40-Run Win Over Bangladesh
Shafali Verma’s attacking 64 and Deepti Sharma’s three wickets help India seal a comfortable semifinal victory
DUBAI, Sept 10: India booked their place in the final of the Women’s Asia Cup with a convincing 40 run victory over Bangladesh in the semifinal at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.
After being asked to bat, India posted 149 for six in their allotted 20 overs, with opener Shafali Verma providing the major contribution. She struck 64 off 40 deliveries, hitting seven fours and three sixes during an aggressive innings.
Verma made the most of several opportunities after being dropped multiple times, anchoring the Indian innings while maintaining the pressure on Bangladesh’s bowlers.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur added an unbeaten 24, while Richa Ghosh chipped in with 21 from 16 balls as India finished with a competitive total despite finding the pitch challenging for stroke making.
Bangladesh struggled during their chase and eventually managed 109 for seven in 20 overs. India’s bowlers maintained control throughout the innings, with Deepti Sharma emerging as the standout performer after claiming three wickets.
The Indian attack kept Bangladesh from building a substantial partnership and ensured that the target remained out of reach.
With the victory, India advanced to the tournament final and will face the winner of the second semifinal between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
The result also maintained India’s strong campaign in the competition, with the team continuing to demonstrate its depth in both batting and bowling.
