Indian Women’s Cricket Team Arrives in Japan for Asian Games Campaign

Fresh from their Asia Cup triumph, Harmanpreet Kaur's side will begin preparations to defend its Asian Games cricket title.

Japan, Sep 16: India’s women’s cricket team has arrived in Japan ahead of the 2026 Asian Games, carrying momentum from its recent T20 Asia Cup triumph.

The team reached Japan on Wednesday as preparations intensified for the women’s cricket competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. India enter the tournament as the defending Asian Games champions after winning the gold medal at Hangzhou in 2023.

The arrival comes shortly after India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Women’s Asia Cup final in Dubai. India posted 183 for five before restricting Sri Lanka to 111, with Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana providing the foundation with a strong opening partnership.

The Asian Games officially open on September 19 and will run until October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya. Cricket is scheduled to begin on September 17, with both the men’s and women’s competitions being played in the T20 format.

India will look to carry its recent continental success into the Games as it seeks to retain the women’s cricket title. The tournament will bring together several of Asia’s leading cricketing nations in a competition that forms part of India’s wider campaign at the Games.
