Singapore School Group Plans to Establish Over 24 Schools Across India
Global School Group to invest over SGD 200 million in greenfield campuses across Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the next five years.
SINGAPORE, September 18: Singapore based Global School Group (GSG) is set to expand its presence in India by establishing more than two dozen new schools across Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh over the next five years.
GSG Chairman Atul Temurnikar announced the expansion while marking 25 years of the group’s operations and campus development. The planned investment is estimated at more than SGD 200 million, equivalent to around Rs 1,500 crore.
According to Temurnikar, the group has recently signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the three states for setting up the new institutions. The upcoming campuses will form part of GSG’s long-term expansion strategy in India’s education sector.
Most of the proposed schools are expected to come up in tier-1 cities, while some will be established in tier-2 locations situated close to major metropolitan centres. A site has already been finalised in Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, for one of the planned campuses.
“The investments in more than two dozen greenfield schools will cost about SGD 200 million,” Temurnikar told PTI during the event.
The chairman said the expansion would focus on developing new campuses and strengthening the group’s educational footprint in the country.
GSG has already established more than 20 schools in India since entering the market in 2011. The group currently operates over 64 campuses across 11 countries in Asia.
The latest expansion plan is expected to further increase the group’s presence in India’s growing private education sector, with the proposed institutions aimed at serving students in major urban centres as well as emerging locations around metropolitan regions.
