Mirzapur The Movie’ Crosses ₹200 Crore in India

Pankaj Tripathi led Mirzapur The Movie records more than ₹200 crore in domestic net collections during its third week.

Mumbai, Sep 22: Mirzapur The Movie has crossed the ₹200-crore mark at the Indian box office, extending the theatrical success of the popular crime franchise led by Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Divyenndu. The film achieved the milestone during its third week in cinemas, according to industry reports.

The theatrical release marks the latest expansion of the Mirzapur franchise, which first gained a large following through its streaming series. The movie brought several familiar characters and performers from the franchise to the big screen, creating strong interest among audiences who had followed the earlier seasons.

According to Bollywood Hungama, the film crossed ₹200 crore in domestic net collections by September 21. The figure represents collections in India and does not include the film’s overseas earnings.

The film’s performance has remained significant even after its initial weeks in theatres. Trade reports indicate that collections have slowed during weekdays, but the movie has continued to add to its overall total. On its 18th day, Mirzapur The Movie reportedly earned around ₹1.75 crore in India, taking its domestic net collection to approximately ₹217.45 crore.

The box-office run comes after considerable anticipation surrounding the transition of the Mirzapur story from the OTT space to cinemas. The original series established a large audience through its portrayal of power struggles, family rivalries and crime in the fictional Uttar Pradesh city of Mirzapur.

Pankaj Tripathi’s portrayal of Kaleen Bhaiya has remained one of the franchise’s most recognisable elements. Ali Fazal’s Guddu Pandit and Divyenndu’s Munna Tripathi have also been central to the series’ popularity, giving the film an established group of characters with an existing audience base.

The move to the big screen has also expanded the commercial scale of the franchise. A theatrical release provides the production with a different revenue model from the streaming-first approach of the television series, while also allowing audiences to experience the story in cinemas.

The film’s domestic milestone is particularly notable because it arrives during a competitive period for Hindi cinema. Several new releases have been competing for screens and audience attention, making sustained collections across multiple weeks an important part of the film’s theatrical performance.

The success of Mirzapur The Movie also demonstrates the commercial potential of established streaming franchises when they move into theatrical formats. The film’s audience is not limited to viewers discovering the story for the first time, as the earlier series created familiarity with its characters and fictional world.

The ₹200-crore milestone therefore represents more than a single box-office figure for the franchise. It marks the theatrical performance of a property that originally built its audience on digital platforms and has now established a substantial cinema presence.

The film continues its theatrical run, with further collections expected to determine its final domestic total. For the makers, the current performance provides a strong commercial reference point as the Mirzapur franchise continues to expand beyond its original streaming format.
