Bus Overturns in Central Iran, Killing 11 and Injuring 24

Iran, Sep 26 : A passenger bus overturned on a major highway in central Iran on Saturday, killing 11 people and leaving 24 others injured, state television reported.
The accident took place on the Saveh-Hamedan freeway in Markazi province. Provincial traffic police attributed the crash to driver fatigue and drowsiness.
Authorities had not immediately disclosed the bus’s destination or provided further details about the circumstances leading up to the accident.
Iran has a high road accident fatality rate, with more than 17,000 people reportedly losing their lives in traffic crashes each year. Experts have linked the country’s road safety challenges to ageing and unsafe vehicles, poor compliance with traffic rules and shortcomings in emergency response services.
The latest accident comes weeks after another deadly road crash in western Iran. Earlier this month, a fuel tanker collided with other vehicles and caught fire near Sanandaj, killing 11 people and injuring seven others.
Iranian authorities have repeatedly faced concerns over road safety, particularly on highways where long-distance travel, vehicle conditions and driver fatigue can contribute to serious accidents.
