Himanta Reviews Preparations for Bhupen Hazarika Centenary Celebrations in New Delhi

NEW DELHI, Sept 28: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inspected Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi to review arrangements for the concluding ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The grand finale is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam on November 29, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to attend the event.

Sarma visited the venue and examined the halls and other facilities being prepared for the programme. Senior officials briefed him on the arrangements and different components of the ceremony.

An exhibition dedicated to Hazarika’s life and work will also be organised at Bharat Mandapam. It will showcase his artistic journey, contributions to Indian music and culture, and lasting influence on generations of artists and audiences.

“We are curating an unforgettable tribute, one truly befitting the legacy of Sudhakantha,” Sarma said in a post on X following his inspection.

Hazarika, widely recognised for his contribution to Assamese and Indian culture, used music and cinema to convey messages of humanity, social harmony, fraternity and national integration. His work reached audiences beyond linguistic and geographical boundaries, establishing a lasting cultural legacy.

The closing ceremony will bring together artists, cultural practitioners, eminent personalities and admirers from different parts of the country. The programme will also highlight Assam’s cultural traditions and Hazarika’s contribution to India’s artistic heritage.

Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Commissioner and Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Padmapani Bora, Resident Commissioner of Assam Bhawan Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi, Director of Information and Public Relations Manabendra Dev Ray and other senior officials accompanied the chief minister during the inspection.
