Drishyam: The Conclusion Records Strong Advance Bookings Ahead of October 2 Release

Mumbai, Sep 30 : Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion is heading towards its October 2 theatrical release with strong advance ticket sales, giving the final chapter of the Hindi crime thriller franchise significant attention ahead of its arrival in cinemas.

The Abhishek Pathak-directed film had accumulated Rs 17.35 crore in advance bookings across its first three days of listed shows by September 29, according to figures reported by India Today, with 2.24 lakh tickets sold for the opening day alone across 7,505 shows. The reported advance gross for the first day stood at Rs 8.97 crore.

The figures underline the interest surrounding the return of Vijay Salgaonkar, the character played by Devgn throughout the Hindi series. The upcoming film is being positioned as the concluding chapter of the Hindi franchise, bringing the story back to theatres after the success of the earlier installments.

Advance sales for the second and third days were also contributing significantly to the total. Reports on September 29 put the second-day advance collection at around Rs 4.74 crore from 1.25 lakh tickets across 6,915 shows, while the third day had generated approximately Rs 4.02 crore from 1.09 lakh tickets across 6,787 shows.

Maharashtra and Delhi were among the strongest markets during the opening phase of advance sales. Maharashtra contributed about Rs 2.93 crore to the first-day bookings, while Delhi accounted for roughly Rs 2.19 crore, according to the reported figures.

The film’s booking performance has attracted attention because it comes several days before its scheduled release. Advance reservations opened on September 27, giving audiences an opportunity to secure tickets for the long weekend beginning with Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Drishyam: The Conclusion brings back several key members associated with the Hindi franchise. Devgn returns as Vijay Salgaonkar, while Shriya Saran reprises her role as Nandini Salgaonkar. Tabu also returns as Meera Deshmukh, continuing a storyline that has revolved around the conflict between the Salgaonkar family and the police investigation into the disappearance at the centre of the earlier films.

The third installment has been directed by Abhishek Pathak, who also directed Drishyam 2. The filmmaker has previously indicated that the Hindi film is different from the Malayalam Drishyam 3, helping establish that the two productions are not simply parallel versions of the same story.

The distinction has become particularly relevant because the Malayalam franchise also has a third installment. Audiences following both versions have therefore been discussing how the Hindi film will develop its own conclusion.

According to a September 29 report by NDTV Profit, the film’s advance booking figures were also being tracked through another set of industry data, which showed Rs 10.25 crore in bookings at that point, with nearly 2.5 lakh tickets sold across more than 8,000 shows. The difference between figures reported by various trade trackers reflects differences in the time of calculation, platforms covered and treatment of blocked seats.

The booking numbers are being closely watched because the film arrives at a time when established Hindi franchises continue to rely heavily on theatrical anticipation. A recognisable character, a returning cast and a storyline built around unresolved questions from previous chapters have helped keep Drishyam: The Conclusion in the entertainment news cycle.

The earlier Hindi films established Vijay Salgaonkar as an ordinary family man who becomes increasingly involved in an elaborate effort to protect his family. The franchise has built its narrative around secrecy, investigation and the consequences of decisions made under pressure.

The first Hindi Drishyam, released in 2015, starred Devgn, Saran and Tabu. Drishyam 2, released in 2022, expanded the story and became a major theatrical success. The third film now carries the responsibility of bringing that particular Hindi storyline to a conclusion.

The filmmakers have kept several elements of the plot under wraps, with the promotional campaign focusing largely on the returning characters and the central mystery rather than revealing the complete narrative.

The film’s certification details also emerged ahead of the release. A September 30 report said the Central Board of Film Certification had granted the movie a UA 16+ certificate. The reported runtime is two hours and 30 minutes.

The certification gives audiences a clearer indication of the film’s final theatrical format while leaving the central story undisclosed.

The strong advance sales also provide an early indication of how audiences are responding before the film actually opens. However, advance bookings cannot determine the eventual theatrical performance, as collections after release will depend on audience response, occupancy, show availability and ticket sales during the full weekend and subsequent weeks.

For Devgn, the film marks another return to a character that has remained closely associated with his recent crime-thriller work. Vijay Salgaonkar has become one of the most recognisable roles in the franchise-driven segment of contemporary Hindi cinema.

The October 2 release date gives the film access to a national holiday and the surrounding weekend, potentially providing theatres with several consecutive days of audience traffic. The first few days will therefore be closely monitored by exhibitors and the film industry.

With only days remaining before its theatrical debut, Drishyam: The Conclusion has already generated considerable activity at the ticket counters.
