Amit Shah Reviews Cyclone Arnab Situation with Chhattisgarh CM, No Flooding or Casualties Reported

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai says the state remains on alert as several districts experience continued rainfall, schools shut in affected areas.

RAIPUR, Oct 29: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spoke with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai to review the situation arising from rainfall triggered by Cyclone Arnab, assuring the state of all possible assistance from the Centre, officials said.

During the telephonic conversation, Sai briefed Shah on the weather conditions and their impact across the state. He said several areas had experienced rainfall, but no incidents of flooding or loss of life had been reported so far, according to an official statement.

The Chief Minister informed the Home Minister that the state administration was closely monitoring developments and remained prepared to respond to any emergency.

Sai expressed gratitude to Shah for extending the Centre’s support to states affected by the cyclone. He said protecting residents was the government’s foremost concern, with relevant departments and district administrations working together to implement precautionary measures and ensure timely rescue and relief operations whenever necessary.

Shah also contacted the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Puducherry to assess the situation in their respective regions and assured them of the Centre’s full cooperation, the statement added.

Meanwhile, several districts of Chhattisgarh, including Raipur, continued to receive light to moderate rainfall for the second consecutive day on Thursday as the weather system moved inland after crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday. Schools remained closed in several districts, including Raipur, as a precautionary measure.

The Meteorological Centre in Raipur said the depression, which was the remnant of the very severe cyclonic storm Arnab, had moved nearly northwards at a speed of 23 kmph. At 11.30 am on Thursday, it was positioned over central parts of Chhattisgarh.

The weather system was expected to continue its northward movement and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area over northern Chhattisgarh and adjoining northwestern Odisha by Thursday evening.

The meteorological department forecast rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph at isolated locations across Chhattisgarh over the next two days.

Raipur is likely to experience generally cloudy conditions on Friday, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers, the weather office said.
