Cyclone Arnab: Congress Urges Centre to Coordinate Relief With States, Ensure PM-CARES Assistance
Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra appeal for coordinated rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
NEW DELHI, Oct 30: The Congress on Friday urged the Centre to take the lead in coordinating relief and rehabilitation measures with state governments following the destruction caused by Cyclone Arnab in Andhra Pradesh and heavy rainfall and flooding in Odisha.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge called for timely assistance to all affected families through the PM CARES Fund and appealed to party workers to support rescue and relief operations.
Expressing concern over the loss of lives and damage caused by the cyclone, Kharge said he was deeply distressed by the situation in Andhra Pradesh and the disruption to normal life in Odisha.
He conveyed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and stressed that the Union Government must work closely with state administrations to ensure effective relief and rehabilitation.
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also appealed to party workers to assist people affected by the natural disaster.
In a post on X, she expressed solidarity with residents of Andhra Pradesh facing cyclone-related destruction and those in Odisha dealing with heavy rainfall and flooding.
She urged Congress workers to extend all possible assistance to affected families and contribute to ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
Earlier, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had expressed concern over the situation in both states and called for immediate support for those affected.
In his post on X on Thursday night, Gandhi offered condolences to families who had lost their loved ones and expressed solidarity with people who had suffered damage to their homes, livelihoods and personal security.
He urged the governments to ensure prompt relief and rehabilitation for every affected household, emphasising the need to support people struggling to recover from the disaster.
The Congress leadership’s appeals come amid concerns over the impact of Cyclone Arnab in Andhra Pradesh and the widespread disruption caused by heavy rainfall and flooding in Odisha.
The party has called for coordinated action between the Centre and state governments to ensure that emergency assistance reaches affected communities and rehabilitation measures are implemented without delay.
