Delhi AQI Deteriorates to ‘Very Poor’ as Thick Smog Blankets City, Jahangirpuri Records 452

The national capital recorded an overall AQI of 332 on Tuesday morning, with eight monitoring stations reporting severe pollution levels and 32 falling in the very poor category.

NEW DELHI, Nov 3: Air pollution intensified across Delhi on Tuesday as a dense layer of smog covered several parts of the national capital, pushing the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) to 332 in the ‘very poor’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Jahangirpuri emerged as the worst affected monitoring location, recording an AQI of 452, placing it in the ‘severe’ category and highlighting the deteriorating pollution situation in the city.

CPCB data showed that eight out of Delhi’s 57 air quality monitoring stations registered severe pollution levels at 9 am. Another 32 stations reported readings in the very poor category, indicating that unhealthy air conditions had spread across a large part of the capital.

The latest deterioration follows Monday’s pollution levels, when Delhi recorded its first ‘very poor’ air quality day of the season, with the overall AQI reaching 324.

The increase to 332 on Tuesday indicates that pollution levels continued to rise despite the city already experiencing hazardous atmospheric conditions.

The thick smog reduced visibility in several areas during the morning hours, while residents faced continued exposure to polluted air.

According to the CPCB classification, an AQI between 301 and 400 falls under the very poor category, while readings above 400 are classified as severe. Prolonged exposure to such conditions can cause respiratory discomfort and aggravate existing health problems, particularly among children, elderly people and individuals suffering from respiratory or cardiovascular ailments.

With a significant number of monitoring stations reporting elevated pollution levels, the latest readings underline the growing challenge of controlling seasonal air pollution in Delhi as winter approaches.
