BADC Demands Restoration of Prestigious Jammu Poonch Railway Line
Jammu, 10-08-2022: Seeking justice for the residents of twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir Border Development Conference(JKBADC), a registered organization working for the welfare of border dwellers of J & K has demanded from the government to restore the prestigious Jammu Poonch Railway Line passing through Rajouri which has been shelved terming the project as ‘Financially Unviable’.
Dr. Shazad Ahmed Malik, former Vice Chancellor and Chairman of JKBADC has written a letter dated 08/Aug/2022 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulating him on the 75ht Independence Day of India and apprised him of the disappointment felt by the people of twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch on the decision of Railway Board, Ministry of Railways to shelve this prestigious project of Jammu-Poonch Railway Project connecting these border districts with rest of the country.
In the letter, Dr Shazad has also urged the Prime Minister to restore this project as it is the most desired and needed project for the development of border areas of J & K.
“ The people of these border districts were jubilant when this Rail project of 223 Km was announced and the news of shelving this project has somehow disheartened them. We are hopeful and request you that when We all are celebrating 75th Independence year, Your good self would announce restoration of this Jammu_Poonch Railway Line which is a much desired and need project for the border residents for development of the area”, the letter reads.
It is pertinent to mention that recently a news report published in the media has stated that in an RTI reply the Railway Board has confirmed its approval of shelving the Jammu Poonch Railway Project calling it ‘Financially Unviable’.
