Speaking on the occasion,  Bhalla said that yatra is being observed throughout the country to make people, particularly the present generation, aware of the party’s contribution in achieving Independence and the development thereafter. They should know the sacrifices made by several Congress leaders in the struggle for Independence.“Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra will remind the people of the country about the struggles and sacrifices made by the Congress leaders and workers to get India’s Independence from the British rule. Strong foundation and infrastructure was created by visionary Congress leaders over the years, as the core principals of their governance was the progress and development of the country,” Bhalla said. Lashing out at the BJP, he alleged that the BJP government has been “selling off” great public institutions that were “created by successive Congress governments”. The Indian National Congress is the only Party that believes that economic growth and communal harmony adding economic growth and social justice, are two sides of the same coin and must always go hand-in-hand. The Indian National Congress is the only Party that combines experience and youth, wisdom and exuberance, achievement and ambition.

Bhalla said that BJP government has been pushing the development of the country backward by several years with wasteful expenditure. People are fed up with price rise, unemployment and loss of businesses and livelihoods,” he said. The Congress party has always offered nation a far more credible ideology than the BJP’s, and one that has been tried and tested. For Congress it not merely an instrument for fighting elections every five years, there is a great deal that it has done for the country, helping citizens in their interactions with the government, the police, and the unfeeling petty bureaucracy they have to confront daily. Congress has always prioritized the ethos of politics as social work for those who cannot help themselves. Rajiv Gandhi succeeded Smt. Indira Gandhi and took over the leadership of the Congress. Rajiv Gandhi was a politician committed to the overall development of India. He took all the steps to take India forward on the path of rapid progress. The development of India was his only agenda and a developed modern India was his only dream.

Bhalla said that Congress always safeguarded the rights and interests of weaker sections including political, economic, professional courses, jobs and developmental aspects. He said right from freedom till date their rights to reservations in services, jobs, political representations including in the PRIs was ensured by the Congress to give them their due share. He asked them to strengthen congress for their rights, interests and upliftment of future generations. The congress is the only political force in the country which is truly secular and has inclusive policies for each and every sections especially the weaker sections. He asked them to come forward to seek their due share in the political arena and represent the voice of their people on every platform. The Congress always safeguarded their rights but other parties only exploited them for vote bank politics to serve their own political interests. Congress responds through legitimate peaceful, democratic and Constitutional means, added Bhalla.

JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma observed that Congress has seen many ups and downs during its long history. Experiencing both- victory as well as defeat, it has covered a long strenuous path of politics. These days the questions being raised about the future of the Congress seem less factual but more bias-driven. The Congress has never been ignorant of failures and defeats, but it is a fact that whenever non-Congress governments have come to power at the Centre, the economy in the country has gone for a toss (in shambles) and the alliance of casteist, opportunistic and extremist powers has got strengthened. In such situations, the moral values of secularism have always been hurt and no work has been done for the welfare of the poor, weaker sections and the untouchables, he added.

JKPCC General Secretary and Incharge District Jammu (Urban) Yogesh Sawhney in his address referred to the contributions and historical efforts of the Congress for the welfare, upliftment and participation of deprived and marginalized sections in the country from independence till date as a result these sections have got their due rights in various fields. He said it is the congress alone which has always remained committed and brought several constitutional and legal safeguards for them. He also referred to the enactment of law for reservations during congress coalition in Jammu and Kashmir. He asked them to bring about change in the political system in favor of Congress for their protections. Sawhney referred to the historical background and described it a battle of ideologies from long time while Congress always followed a progressive policy of liberalism, equality and togetherness. He asked them to follow Congress policies of progressiveness and unity in diversity.

JKPCC General Secretary Manmohan Singh speaking on the occasion said that fire of inflation has scorched every person and family. Buying a gas cylinder for the home is now out of reach. The skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel, flour, edible oil, pulses, vegetables and daily essentials have made life difficult for most Indians. Unemployment and inflation have now become a curse for the citizens of the country. No section of the society have remained untouched by the apathy of the ruling government. India under BJP Govt is passing through a period of severe economic slowdown. Entire industries and businesses have collapsed but the government remains unconcerned, added Singh.
