The pad yatra started from Jeewal, reached Science College and passed through Canal Road, and ended near Guest House, Canal Road.

Along with Yogesh Sawhney, Manmohan Singh, Vakar Rasool, senior Congress leaders including Ashok Sharma, Vinod Sharma, Vijay Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma, Narinder Gupta, Dr. Ramakant Khajuria, Pawan Dev Singh, Rajveer Singh, Pawan Sharma, Vijay Malhotra, Sandeep Dogra, Aarti Gupta, Pradeep Bhalla, Rakesh Kumar, Gulshan, Ajay Kumar, and others participated in the Pad Yatra.

Speaking during the Pad Yatra, Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney, District President Jammu (U) & General Secretary PCC said that the Congress party is undertaking this yatra to pay tribute to the heroes of the nation who helped India achieve independence from the brutal British rule terming the yatra as ‘Gaurav Yatra’. We are celebrating the country’s independence and our immense pride in the people who led the country during the freedom struggle as well as Congress party’s rich history in that regard. He further stated that the march is also intended to start an awareness campaign about the reality of the BJP government and how it is exploiting the nation through its anti-people policies. The Congress party has been historically fighting against all forces that work against the nation like the British, and so it also will fight tooth and nail to combat the exploitative governance of the BJP as well. Under the incumbent government, the people continue to suffer at the hands of the highest rates of inflation, unemployment and various other issues. Through the rally, we will highlight the blunders of the BJP-led Central government. Be it the increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST) on essential food commodities and other essential items, the recent Agniveer scheme, or the skyrocketing inflation, we are taking these issues to the people, he said.

Manmohan Singh General Secretary PCC also spoke on the occasion and hailed the Pad Yatra rally of the Congress party as “Azadi ki Gaurav Yatra”. Congress leaders, members, party workers are embarking on this journey to mark our pride for the legacy of the Indian freedom struggle. Similarly, the Congress party is undertaking the rally in various regions across the country to reach the masses and shed light on how the freedom struggle against the British may have ended but the freedom struggle against the BJP still continues. The Bharat Chodo Campaign which started as a movement for independence is still valid today because BJP’s malicious intentions are visible through their hard hitting policies and decisions, he said.

Former Minister Vakar Rasool Wani stated that in the seventy five years of independence of India the Congress party has played a major role in the development of the country and carried the principles of our forefathers. On the other hand, for the BJP, patriotism is only an agenda and campaigns like Har Ghar Tiranga are propaganda to create a false image. Because in reality, it has been making policies to benefit their capitalist friends while taking away wealth from the common people since 2014. He further slammed the BJP government for failing the Indian public on multiple accounts and said that the Congress party’s Pad Yatra is to remind the country of how we can together fight oppressive forces, be it the British or the BJP.

Narender Gupta and Sanjeev Sharma both Secretary PCC thanked all the party workers and leaders for actively participating in the Tiranga Yatra of the Congress party.
