Srinagar, Nov 18: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has unexpectedly decided to leave his position as president of the National Conference.
In the first week of December, the party will hold elections to choose its new leader. Abdullah will continue to steer the party until then.
Abdullah informed his colleagues of his resignation, according to a party official. He said, “Dr. Sahib was adamant that he wouldn’t revisit his decision, despite the best efforts of senior colleagues.
The party general secretary has been tasked with conducting the election for party president, which will be finished on December 5, in light of this unexpected announcement that has caught everyone off guard. Dr. Sahib continues to serve as the party’s president up until that point, the spokesman stated.
According to party insiders, Abdullah made the news on Thursday during a meeting of the party’s in-charge segments, District Presidents, and other provincial office bearers.
He requested that the party leaders assume leadership during his address because his health prevents him from doing so. Omar Abdullah, the party vice president, was also present during the meeting.
