Jammu, Oct 21: The Jammu and Kashmir police in Kathua district have booked an Assistant Sub Inspector and a Special Police Officer, besides suspension of in-charge Inspector has been recommended after they were found involved in providing fake entry passes to travelers after obtaining money from them at Lakhanpur border.
Police have arrested two cops involved in issuing fake passes to the people entering J&K via the gateway of Lakhanpur. The police also placed one inspector on the spot under suspension for dereliction of duty. The police have also registered an FIR under number 90/20 under Sections 420, 471, 188, 269, 270 IPC against the duo.
SSP Kathua, Shailnder Mishra said that police have received many complaints about the last few days that some police personnel is involved in issuing the fake passes to the travelers at Lakhanpur to save their time in checking, etc. He said though it takes hardly 10 minutes to complete formalities at Lakhanpur some travelers even don’t want to spare that time. He said, however, the police could not ascertain that who were the cops involved in this racket.
Mishra said that yesterday police team led by him in civil dress posed like the travelers and during the mid-screening, at a checking point one SPO showed his willingness to provide the pass in lieu of money. He handed over the passes to the team and was rounded up on the spot.
During frisking, police also found an old pass and Rs 400 in cash from the pocket of an ASI and he too was arrested. He said the Police Inspector, Vijay who was on duty at that particular point was also placed under suspension. The cops were identified as ASI Kishore Kumar and SPO, Des Raj. The police have also started an investigation in the matter
SSP further said that the department has also communicated a recommendation to the DIG Jammu-Kathua-Samba range for suspension of Inspector Incharge of the police Naka in Lakhanpur, besides a departmental inquiry has also been initiated against the DySP rank officer.
“Kathua police are working hard for the last seven to eight months and have successfully implemented the SOPs besides facilitating the travelers in the best possible manner but some elements in the department itself are trying to play foul which shall not be tolerated,” SSP said.
He also appealed to the people to have a normal entry in Lakhanpur where the waiting period has been reduced to only ten to twenty minutes and incoming passengers are being facilitated in the best possible way.
