LG Sinha should issue written order on sparing people having less than one kanal of land: Rattan Lal
Says Govt must follow proper procedure to recover state land
JAMMU, Feb 11: J&K National Conference today slammed the J&K administration for continuation of the so called eviction drive which has on ground generating fear among the common masses.
In a statement issued here today, Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President, Jammu, JKNC, said that the Lt Governor had assured that the action will only be taken against the big sharks who had usurped the big land chunks comprising hundreds of kanals of land but on ground the notices of eviction / demolition have been served to poor and marginalized sections of society having few marlas of land on which these underprivileged people have constructed their houses and small business establishments. He said that the present land order shows the hypocrisy of BJP because on one side its leadership in J&K vows to work for the needy and on other the ongoing eviction drive is ruining the lives of common masses living in peace for years together.
Rattan Lal anguished over the manner and method used to evict the marginal farmers, small shopkeepers and those living in small houses constructed years back, sends a message that the administration is insensitive to the sentiments of the general public.
The senior NC leader clarified that the Party was not against recovering the state land from big sharks who encroached the big chunk of state land illegally but a proper procedure should be followed and the present government must ensure that poor people should not be harassed at any cost. The government must give people a chance to prove their claim and also issue proper notices to those having illegal possession of state land before sending bulldozers to demolish houses, complexes and other buildings, he added.
The Provincial President sought that the J&K Government should come up with a written order on sparing the people having less than one kanal of land and small shops as committed by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and LG Administration because history is testimony that BJP leadership and governments under its ambit often termed their wordings to be Jumlas therefore oral assurances over the matter are unacceptable.
