Two years in jail for Azam Khan and his son

Feb 14 : Senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam Khan were both given a two-year prison sentence by a special MP-MLA court in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, in a 2008 case. However, the two were later given bail.

On January 29, 2008, a charge was filed against Azam Khan, his son, and seven other people in the Moradabad district’s Chhajlet police station after SP leaders held a dharna on the street to protest the police checking Azam Khan’s vehicle.

All nine accused, including SP leaders Mehboob Ali, Hazi Ikram Qureshi, Paras Jain, D.P. Yadav, and Rajesh Yadav, were later charged with crimes under sections 341, 353, and the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
