Businessman-Turned-Politician Altaf Bukhari Receives ‘Z+’ 24/7 CRPF Security Cover
Security Beefed Up for J&K Apni Party Leader Altaf Bukhari After Threat Analysis
05-04-2023 : According to government sources and media reports, the Ministry of Home Affairs has provided former People’s Democratic Party leader and Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari with ‘Z+’ category armed Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security cover. This decision was made after a recent security review meeting based on an Intelligence Bureau threat analysis. Altaf Bukhari, a businessman-turned-politician and former minister, will now receive 24/7 security in Jammu and Kashmir.
Altaf Bukhari founded the J&K Apni Party (JKAP) as an alternative to regional parties such as the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), of which he was once a member. The JKAP mainly comprises legislators and former ministers and has been holding rallies to gain support from voters, especially in Kashmir. Last year, the party held a mega rally in Srinagar, considered one of the biggest in the Valley post-August 5, 2019.
Despite criticizing the government’s anti-encroachment drive, Bukhari has expressed his openness to form an alliance with the BJP. In March 2020, prominent leaders of the JKAP met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to demand the safeguarding of land rights and jobs for the people of J&K. Bukhari reported that their efforts were appreciated by Modi and Shah.
