SUCHETGARH, APR 29: Taranjit Singh Tony, Chairman Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jammu and Kashmir for Administrative Engagement and Minority Affairs, and DDC Member Suchetgarh has appealed to the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to formulate a result oriented strategy under a meticulously tailored policy so that the fight against drugs in Jammu and Kashmir reaches some logical conclusion. He said that this fight needs to be strengthened at the grass roots for which it is necessary that the UT Administration involves Panchayat Raj Institutions (PRIs) ensuring their proactive participation for eradicating the menace of this social evil once for all.
In a statement issued to media persons here today, Taranjit Singh Tony also made a fervent appeal to the society at large to come forward and join the crucial war against drug abuse. He said that it is high time that we shun the attitude of being silent spectators to the havoc and destruction caused to the precious lives of the people especially the youth.
Referring specifically to life consuming drug Chitta, Tony said that it is high time that we must come out to the forefront and instead of constructing religious places we must construct rehabilitation centres to save the youth of our society on whom depends the future of J&K and the nation.
The senior AAP leader demanded that the J&K Administration prioritize provision for adequate Infrastructure in shape of drug de-addiction centres and sports facilities at the rural level to augment the battle against drug abuse.
Tony appealed to the PRI members to gear up and shoulder the crucial responsibility of eradicating the drug menace. He said that there is a dire need to shun the attitude of blaming the police and civil administration for failure as no campaign can succeed unless and until there is proactive participation of people to augment the official efforts. He asserted that we need to realize that it’s not only the job of Govt but as public representatives, it’s our moral duty to come forward and work for eradicating the menace of drugs. He urged the society at large to act immediately rather than today before it’s too late tomorrow.
