Congress President Kharge Slams Modi Government for Neglecting Armed Forces Vacancies

03-07-2023 : Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, accusing it of prioritizing political interests over the well-being of the armed forces. Kharge’s criticism focused on the reported shortage of officers at the Major and Captain levels in the Army, highlighting the government’s failure to fill these crucial vacancies.

In a tweet, Kharge shared a media report that shed light on the acute shortage of officers and the proposed measures to address the issue. The Army is reportedly considering reducing staff officers’ postings at headquarters and appointing re-employed officers to mitigate the shortage. Kharge used this information to argue that the government had neglected its responsibility to ensure the proper staffing of the armed forces.

The Congress president lamented that while the government frequently espouses “Nationalism” in its rhetoric, it has failed to prioritize the welfare of the soldiers. He criticized the government’s focus on breaking political parties while neglecting to fill important vacancies in the armed forces. Kharge questioned the government’s misplaced priorities and accused it of betraying the armed forces’ trust.

Kharge highlighted the concerning number of vacancies in the armed forces and the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), which currently stands at over 2 lakh. This shortage raises doubts about the forces’ readiness and ability to fulfill their operational requirements effectively.

Furthermore, Kharge criticized the Agnipath scheme as an indication that the government lacks adequate funds to support the soldiers. He argued that this admission reflects the government’s failure to prioritize the well-being and security of the armed forces.

Turning his attention to the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme, Kharge accused the government of mishandling the process and creating divisions among Jawans by introducing anomalies in OROP-2. He claimed that the government’s actions have not only betrayed the mandate of the people but also revealed a lack of genuine concern for national security.
