High-Level Core Group Meeting in Jammu and Kashmir Addresses Security and Counter-Infiltration Strategies

Chinar Corps Commander and J&K DGP Co-Chair Strategic Meeting to Bolster Counter-Terrorism Efforts

25-09-2023 : On Monday, a significant multi-agency Core Group meeting took place in Srinagar, co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the Commander of the Army’s Chinar Corps, and Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police for Jammu and Kashmir. This high-level meeting brought together various intelligence agencies and security forces to address critical matters related to the security landscape in the region.

The primary focus of this meeting was to review the prevailing security situation and deliberate on strategies aimed at enhancing the counter-infiltration and counter-terrorism grid in Jammu and Kashmir. The discussion aimed to strengthen the security apparatus and address emerging challenges posed by anti-national elements.

The meeting took place at the Badami Bagh cantonment, which serves as the headquarters for the Army’s 15 Corps. It brought together key stakeholders in the security and intelligence domains, reflecting a coordinated effort to tackle security concerns in the region effectively.

The timing of this meeting is noteworthy, coming shortly after a significant loss suffered by security forces in Kashmir. In a recent anti-militancy operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district, two highly decorated Army officers, including a Commanding Officer and a Major, along with a Deputy Superintendent of J&K Police and a soldier, tragically lost their lives. The operation, which spanned seven days, resulted in the elimination of two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, including Uzair Khan, who was responsible for the officers’ killings.

The challenges and complexities of maintaining security and stability in Jammu and Kashmir are evident, and such high-level meetings play a crucial role in assessing the evolving security landscape and devising effective strategies to address them. The cooperation and coordination between various intelligence agencies and security forces underscore the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the region’s residents.
