Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh Reveals Critical Shortage: 4,000 Vacancies for Constables in Jammu and Kashmir Police

Communal Harmony Prevails in Kathua Amidst Police Shortages: DGP Dilbagh Singh Discusses Local Peace and Unemployment Concerns

27-09-2023 : Jammu and Kashmir’s Director General of Police (DGP), Dilbagh Singh, made a significant announcement on Wednesday regarding the state’s police force. He disclosed that there are currently 4,000 vacant positions for constables within the department, and this shortage is being acutely felt across various areas.

In the past, the police department conducted its own recruitment drives. However, the responsibility for recruitment was recently transferred to a separate agency. This change in procedure has led to a substantial backlog of vacant constable positions. DGP Singh shared this information with reporters during a security review meeting held in Kathua district.

He praised the communal harmony in Kathua and its remote villages, highlighting the hardworking individuals who contribute to the local economy by toiling in fields and shops. The district has maintained a peaceful atmosphere, and DGP Singh acknowledged the high demand for police recruitment drives, as the youth in the region are grappling with unemployment.

DGP Singh emphasized that the police force has consistently given priority to recruiting in border areas whenever recruitment drives have been conducted in the past. This approach helps bolster security and maintain stability in sensitive regions.

Regarding the recent Kokernag encounter in which two army officers and a police officer lost their lives, DGP Singh assured the public that the situation remains peaceful, just as it was before the incident. He also noted that the neighboring country consistently engages in conspiracies aimed at destabilizing the peace in the region. However, he reassured that the police and security forces are vigilant and prepared to thwart any such attempts.
