Rahul Gandhi Set to Embark on ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’—A Congress Initiative for Inclusivity and Empowerment, Connecting Hearts and Minds
New Delhi, 27-12-2023 : Following the impactful Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi is set to embark on the ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra,’ a journey from the eastern reaches of Imphal, Manipur, to the western terminus of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Scheduled to commence on January 14 and conclude on March 20, this yatra aims to engage with the youth, women, and marginalized communities, covering a substantial distance of 6,200 kilometers.
The Congress Party’s announcement of the Nyay Yatra underscores its commitment to connect with diverse sections of society. Rahul Gandhi’s interactions during this journey will extend to 14 states and 85 districts, traversing the landscapes of Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and finally, Maharashtra.
Speaking at a Delhi news conference, Organisation Secretary KC Venugopal highlighted the strategic approach to the yatra, stating, “This time the Yatra will be carried out by bus, with leaders expected to walk certain sections of the route.” The decision to conduct the yatra from East to West was influenced by the opinions of Congress workers, as Venugopal explained, “On December 21, Congress workers gave the opinion that Rahul Gandhi should start Yatra from East to West. Rahul Gandhi also agreed to fulfill the wishes of CWC.”
Mallikarjun Kharge, the Congress president, will inaugurate the yatra, setting in motion a journey that coincides with the intensification of the campaigning phase for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. As the yatra navigates states currently under the governance of parties affiliated with the INDIA alliance, there remains anticipation regarding potential collaborations with the Congress initiative.
Recalling the previous Bharat Jodo Yatra, which spanned from Kanyakumari to Srinagar, covering 3,970 km, 12 states, and two Union territories over 130 days, the Congress aims to replicate the success achieved during that extensive journey. Rahul Gandhi’s on-foot traverse of almost 4,000 km from Kanyakumari to Kashmir left a lasting impact, notably influencing the polls in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, initiated on September 7, 2022, saw a notable increase in the Congress’s strike rate and vote share. The yatra covered 511 km in Karnataka over 22 days, contributing to the party’s strengthened electoral presence. The forthcoming Bharat Nyay Yatra is poised to build upon this momentum, fostering engagement, dialogue, and connectivity across diverse regions of India.
