Justice in Motion: Charge Sheet Filed Against Naib Sarpanch and Property Dealer Accused of Defrauding Buyer in Jammu Land Transaction
Jammu, 29-12-2023: The Economic Offences Wing of the Crime Branch of Jammu has officially charge-sheeted a Naib Sarpanch and a property dealer in connection with a land fraud case. The accused individuals, identified as Karanjeet Singh, the property dealer, and Rajinder Singh, the Naib Sarpanch, both residents of Suchetgarh, RS Pura, are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and duping the complainant, Maqsood Ahmed of Drawtay, RS Pura, in a fraudulent land deal.
According to a spokesperson from the Crime Branch, Maqsood Ahmed lodged a complaint alleging that he had purchased a 15-marla plot in RS Pura, Jammu, on December 25, 2020, from Karanjeet Singh and Rajinder Singh. The transaction involved a substantial sum of Rs 27 lakhs, with an initial payment of Rs 15 lakhs and subsequent payments of Rs 15 lakhs made through a combination of cheque and cash.
However, when Maqsood Ahmed requested the execution of the sale deed and the refund of the remaining payment, the accused allegedly refused to comply. The Crime Branch spokesperson revealed that the complainant faced threats to himself and his family when he persisted in seeking a refund. Additionally, cheques issued by the accused bounced due to insufficient funds, resulting in the complainant being defrauded in the land deal.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Crime Branch initiated a preliminary verification, which substantiated the allegations made by Maqsood Ahmed. Subsequently, a formal case was registered, leading to the arrest of the accused individuals on December 6 and 7, 2023. A comprehensive charge sheet, inclusive of evidence and statements, has been presented in court as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
The charges against the accused entail accusations of cheating and duping Maqsood Ahmed of a substantial sum amounting to Rs 20 lakhs under the pretense of selling a plot, which is presently valued at over Rs 50 lakhs. The accused, displaying a lack of cooperation in the investigation, remains in custody as the legal process unfolds and progresses. The charge sheet serves as a crucial step in seeking justice for the victim and establishing accountability for the alleged land fraud.
