Election Commission Announces February 27 as the Date for Biennial Rajya Sabha Elections Across 15 States

New Delhi, 29-01-2024 : The Election Commission declared on Monday that biennial elections to fill 56 seats in the Rajya Sabha will take place on February 27 across 15 states. This electoral process is set to replace the seats of 50 members who are scheduled to retire on April 2, with an additional six members retiring on April 3, according to the Election Commission’s announcement.

The states witnessing the retirement of Rajya Sabha members include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Rajasthan. The upcoming biennial elections are crucial for reshaping the composition of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of India’s Parliament, as members retire and new representatives are elected to serve in this significant legislative body.
