Meteorological Alert: Jammu and Kashmir Braces for Widespread Rain and Snowfall in the Next 24 Hours, Heightening Concerns for Road Closures and Agricultural Impact

While the weather is projected to remain generally dry with a chance of very light snow at isolated higher elevations on February 2, a shift is anticipated from February 3–4, with the likelihood of light to moderate rain or snow at various locations in Jammu and Kashmir. Subsequently, the forecast suggests a dry spell from February 5 to 10.

An advisory accompanying the forecast warns of potential road closures in higher elevations and important passes, including Sinthan Pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna and Razdan Pass, Zojila, etc., during the specified period. Travelers are strongly urged to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid disruptions.

Farmers have also received guidance from the Meteorological office, advising them to refrain from irrigation and fertilizer applications and to drain excess water from orchards and fields during the aforementioned weather period.

On the temperature front, there has been a drop in night temperatures across most stations, although they remain above normal in the Kashmir Valley. Srinagar, the summer capital, recorded a low of 0.8°C, which was 1.8°C above the seasonal norm. The day temperature witnessed a rise, reaching 10.1°C, 2.6°C above the normal for this period.

Other regions, such as Qazigund, Kokerng, Pahalgam, Kupwara, and Gulmarg, also experienced variations in temperatures, with the Meteorological office providing detailed insights into each location. The forecast underscores the need for residents, travelers, and agricultural communities to stay informed and take necessary precautions in light of the predicted weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.
