Congress and NC Cement Alliance: Seat Distribution Accorded for Crucial Lok Sabha Battle in J&K and Ladakh ; Each To Contest 3 Constituencies

Congress and NC Pact: Each to Contest 3 Constituencies in J&K and Ladakh Lok Sabha Polls

New Delhi, 08-04-2024 : The Congress and the National Conference (NC) have finalized their agreement on seat sharing for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh. This significant decision was announced during a joint press conference held in New Delhi.

According to National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, both parties have agreed that the Congress will contest the Udhampur, Jammu, and Ladakh Lok Sabha seats, while the National Conference will field candidates in Anantnag, Srinagar, and Baramulla.

Abdullah formally declared, “The National Conference and Congress will jointly contest the elections in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh with three candidates for each of the two parties.” He emphasized that the National Conference would extend its support to Congress candidates in the Udhampur, Jammu, and Ladakh seats.

This collaboration, referred to as the INDIA bloc, aims to address the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, ensuring their adequate representation in Parliament. The seat-sharing arrangement was reached following extensive consultations between the leadership of the Congress and NC, with Congress seat sharing committee member Salman Khurshid also present at the press conference.

Regarding the participation of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the INDIA bloc, Khurshid clarified that while the PDP remains part of the alliance, challenges in seat adjustment arose due to the limited geographical scope of the region.

Meanwhile, the PDP has nominated candidates for three seats in Kashmir, notably fielding Mehbooba Mufti against DPAP president Ghulam Nabi Azad in Anantnag. Khurshid highlighted that the decision to allocate seats to the National Conference was influenced by their existing representation in the Lok Sabha.

Responding to queries about Omar Abdullah’s potential candidacy, Khurshid indicated that any such decision would prompt another press conference in Srinagar.
