Tony urges LG Sinha to direct UEED to prevent potential flooding disasters

JAMMU: Taranjit Singh Tony, General Secretary of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee and DDC Suchetgarh, has strongly criticized the Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) of J&K for its apparent inaction and failure to address the growing issue of blockages in several nallahs across the city and its outer areas.

In a statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader Tony stated that the UEED Department appears to be in a deep slumber. The senior functionaries of UEDD need to come out of their air-conditioned offices and took stock of the blockages. It is unacceptable that most of the nallahs have not been desilted as the monsoon has already marked its entry in Jammu. The Landoi Choi Nallah near the airport, along with the nallahs in Nanak Nagar, Gaddhigarh, Bhour and Chatha are full of blockades. These must be cleared immediately before the rainy season begins,” he added.

The senior Congress leader emphasized that the UEED has been non-performing and defunct in carrying out its duties. The blockages in these Nallahs pose a significant threat to the city and its residents, especially during the monsoon season. The risk of flooding is a serious concern that demands immediate attention and action, he added.

Expressing growing frustration among citizens over the lack of responsiveness from the UEED Department, Tony stressed the urgent need for proactive measures to safeguard the city from preventable flooding incidents. He highlighted the potential health hazards and infrastructural damage that could result from the department’s negligence.

Highlighting the broader implications of the UEED’s inefficiency, Tony pointed out that the department’s failure could undermine public trust in the administration’s ability to manage urban infrastructure effectively. He urged the LG Sinha to hold the UEED accountable and ensure that they fulfill their responsibilities to the citizens of Jammu. He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any issues related to nallah blockages to the authorities. He assured the citizens that he would continue to advocate for their concerns and work towards a resolution of the issue.

Tony urged Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and direct the UEED to ensure that all blockages in the nallahs within the city and its outer areas are cleared promptly. “It is imperative that the UEED Department takes swift action to prevent any potential flooding disasters,” he added.
