Hurriyat Leader Sarjan Barkati Secures Nomination in Ganderbal and Beerwah After Disqualification in Zainapora
Srinagar, 06-09-2024: The nomination of jailed cleric and Hurriyat Conference leader Sarjan Ahmad Wagay, also known as Sarjan Barkati, was officially accepted today from the Ganderbal and Beerwah constituencies. This comes after his earlier nomination for the Zainapora seat in Shopian was rejected by election authorities last week. Barkati’s family had filed his papers for the Zainapora seat, but officials rejected the nomination due to his failure to provide the necessary “oath certificate” and other required documents within the stipulated timeframe.
Meanwhile, the election authorities have rejected the nominations of 16 candidates across various constituencies in Central Kashmir. Out of the 204 candidates who initially submitted their papers from Central Kashmir, only 288 now remain in the race for the upcoming elections.
