Two Terrorists Killed as Security Forces Thwart Infiltration Attempt Along LoC in J&K’s Kupwara
Srinagar, Oct 5: In a major success, security forces eliminated two terrorists during an ongoing counter-infiltration operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. The Indian Army, through its Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, confirmed that the infiltration attempt was foiled early Saturday, with troops engaging in a fierce gun battle after spotting suspicious movement in the Gugaldhar sector of Kupwara.
The operation was initiated when vigilant forces detected the terrorists attempting to cross the LoC under the cover of darkness. Upon being challenged, the infiltrators opened fire, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire. The army swiftly neutralized two terrorists, ensuring the infiltration bid was thwarted.
Following the encounter, the army recovered war-like stores from the site, indicating the terrorists were well-equipped for a prolonged engagement. The area is still being searched for any remaining militants or additional weaponry.
This infiltration attempt comes amid heightened security measures along the LoC as forces remain on high alert to prevent cross-border terrorism, particularly as winter approaches when infiltration routes become more challenging due to heavy snowfall. The Kupwara sector, with its rugged terrain and proximity to the LoC, has historically been a hotspot for infiltration attempts.
Security officials have emphasized that such attempts are part of a larger strategy by Pakistan-based terror groups to destabilize the region, but the Indian Army remains resolute in maintaining vigilance along the border to prevent any such incursions.
With the latest operation successfully eliminating the immediate threat, the army has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Jammu and Kashmir, while sending a strong message to terror outfits across the border. The ongoing search operation will continue to ensure no remnants of the terrorist group remain in the area.
