Jammu Doctors Forum & Jammu Doctors Association condemn Arvind Kejriwal’s statement against male gynecologist
Jammu: 15 Oct 2024: Jammu Doctors Forum (JDF) terms an illogical and absurd statement of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal at Doda wherein he has stated that “Male gynecologists provide services to women” in Doda district. His statement has created quite an unrest in society and is against medical principles and ethics. This has also questioned the credentials of doctors practicing gynecology, which needs to be rectified.
The medical profession is inherently gender-neutral, prioritizing skill, expertise, and patient care above all else. Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks in Doda, Jammu, targeting male gynecologists, not only challenge this core principle but also perpetuate gender bias in a field where competence should be the only focus. Both male and female gynecologists are highly trained professionals committed to women’s health, and comments like these foster needless divisions in a profession dedicated to healing and service, not gender distinctions.
Jammu and Kashmir is already having a shortage of doctors, and those working in far-off places like Doda and Bhaderwah are performing their duties in adverse conditions and catering to the needs of people, including women who are our sisters and daughters. Kejriwal’s statement has created furore amongst women patients as if male doctors are aliens and don’t adhere to their ethics. This has divided society and created unrest. Kejriwal is a learned person who knows the adverse effects of such statements.
We seek his unconditional apology for misguiding the masses, misleading them, and defaming the noble profession of doctors who are working hard to provide best medial services in India. Kejriwal must know that a number of the best genealogists in India are males and are performing their duties at par with their female colleagues ably and catering to the people for several decades, and no one has ever questioned their integrity.
Kejriwal must also know that Sushruta, who is considered the Father of Indian Medicine, was also male, and like that, Sage Agastya, Caraka Vagbhata, Atreya, and Agnivesa, besides Atreya, were all known for their capabilities in the Indian medicine field, and they were all male. Well-known male gynecologists of the Jammu region who have been serving the society for generations, like Dr. Ajay Wakhloo, Dr. Kasturi Lal, Dr. Sunil Chowdhary, Dr.Anil Mehta, Dr.Yudhishter vir Gupta, Dr. Vinay Menia, Dr. Arun Arora, and Dr. R.C. Sharma, are famous names in Jammu and Kashmir. Their dedication, commitment, experience, expertise, and excellence are unquestioned.
We condemn the statement of Arvind Kejriwal and seek an unconditional apology from him or else we appeal to the people of Doda and other areas to see the nefarious designs in his statement that’s aimed at dividing society on a gender basis.
