EJAC, JKECC Employees Union Urge New Government to Resolve Long-Standing Employee Grievances in J&K
J&K Employee Bodies Push for Regularization, Restoration of Old Pension Scheme, wage reforms etc.
SRINAGAR, Oct 20: The Jammu & Kashmir Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) and the Jammu & Kashmir Employees Coordination Committee (JKECC) today urged the newly formed government to address long-standing issues faced by employees across various departments. At a press conference, EJAC President Wajahat Hussain emphasized the importance of constructive collaboration with the government to resolve employee grievances and ensure the smooth implementation of public welfare initiatives.
Hussain expressed optimism for the quick resolution of genuine concerns affecting employees in multiple sectors, including Public Sector Units (PSUs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). He highlighted the urgent need to regularize the services of daily wagers, Rehbar-e-Khel, Rehbar-e-Zirat, National Health Mission (NHM) workers, consolidated drivers of the Road Transport Corporation (RTC), and other contractual employees.
“These employees have dedicated years of service, and their regularization is not just a demand but a necessity for ensuring justice, security, and stability for the workforce,” Hussain remarked. He also called for immediate action to extend the benefits of the recently implemented Minimum Wages Act by the Center to employees in Jammu & Kashmir until the regularization process is formalized.
Referring to a memorandum submitted last year, Hussain reiterated EJAC’s commitment to actively pursuing the fulfillment of employee-related demands. Among the key priorities is the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS), which has been a significant concern for employees seeking financial security.
“The regularization of daily wagers, the implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, and the reinstatement of the OPS are essential steps towards ensuring fairness, equity, and dignity for all employees,” he stressed. Hussain reaffirmed EJAC’s readiness to work closely with the administration to turn these promises into action, ushering in an era of progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
In addition to addressing employee issues, both EJAC and JKECC called on the government to implement the commitments made in its election manifesto. “A government earns its legacy by listening to the voices of its workers,” Hussain stated, urging the administration to uphold its promises to the workforce.
JKECC President Shah Fayaz echoed these sentiments, pressing the government to fulfill the employee-related promises outlined in the election manifesto. “We demand the resolution of long-standing employee issues, including the regularization of contractual employees and an increase in their salaries,” Fayaz said. He also highlighted the need for a comprehensive policy on the regularization of vocational trainers, MGNREGA employees, and other temporary workers.
The press conference concluded with both EJAC and JKECC reaffirming their commitment to continue advocating for the rights and well-being of employees, urging the government to take swift action in addressing these critical concerns.
