A Salute to Courage: CM Omar Abdullah Joins the Nation in Mourning a True Hero
Jammu, March 29: In a solemn tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday attended the wreath-laying ceremony of Head Constable Jagbir Singh, who was martyred along with three of his colleagues in a fierce two-day encounter with Pakistani terrorists in Kathua district. The emotionally charged ceremony took place at the Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarters in Gulshan Ground, where the Chief Minister led the dignitaries in paying their respects to the valiant officer.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, Minister Satish Sharma, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, and several senior officials from the civil administration, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the Indian Army also laid wreaths at the coffin draped in the national flag, honoring the supreme sacrifice made by the fallen hero. The Chief Minister, in his address, lauded the unwavering commitment and courage displayed by the police force in combating terrorism and safeguarding the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Kathua encounter, which unfolded over two days in the dense forests of Safiyan, claimed the lives of four brave police personnel who fought valiantly against heavily armed terrorists. Security agencies later confirmed that the slain terrorists were affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit, a group notorious for orchestrating deadly attacks in the region. The intense operation underscored the ever-present challenges faced by security forces in their relentless fight against cross-border terrorism.
As the atmosphere at Gulshan Ground was filled with grief and pride, family members, colleagues, and officers bid a tearful farewell to the fallen hero. The sacrifice of Head Constable Jagbir Singh and his colleagues was recognized as yet another reminder of the extraordinary dedication of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the face of adversity. Their martyrdom has only strengthened the resolve of the security forces to continue their mission of securing the region from the menace of terrorism.
Meanwhile, the wreath-laying ceremony for the other three martyred policemen was held at the District Police Lines in Kathua late Friday evening, where their colleagues and senior officials paid homage to their unparalleled bravery. The government has assured all possible support to the bereaved families and reiterated its firm stance against terrorism, vowing to bring to justice those responsible for orchestrating such attacks.
The loss of these brave officers has once again highlighted the sacrifices made by Jammu and Kashmir’s security personnel in their unyielding efforts to protect peace and stability in the region.
