Aam Aadmi Party’s Shelly Oberoi elected as the new mayor of Delhi

22-03-2023 : Today, Shelly Oberoi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was elected as the new mayor of Delhi, receiving 150 votes. She won the election by defeating Rekha Gupta of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) with a margin of 34 votes. The voting process started at approximately 11:30 am and lasted for over two hours. Out of the total 250 voters comprising of 10 nominated MPs, 14 nominated MLAs, and 241 elected councillors, 241 participated in the election.

Shelly Oberoi had attempted to become the Delhi Mayor thrice before but failed due to political conflicts between the AAP and BJP. The civic centre met three times this year on January 6, January 24, and February 6. The Delhi municipal elections were held on December 4, and the results were announced on December 7, with the AAP winning 134 out of 250 seats.
